The Chiefs are preparing to lose one of Patrick Mahomes’ favorite targets
Owning a quarterback, the New Orleans Saints are reportedly close to a deal with former Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr.

The move hasn’t changed the Saints’ odds in the futures market yet. They are +5,000 to win the Super Bowl in the 2023 season and tied with the Carolina Panthers at +210 to win the NFC South division.

Carr is a promotion for Andy Dalton, who started the majority of the Saints’ games in the 2022 season, but he may not make the team an outright favorite to win the NFL’s worst division.
New Orleans was rumored to have been in the market for Carr for some time, although they were unable to trade the former Raiders quarterback. Instead, the Saints played the long game and slated to sign Carr as a free agent.
The Raiders released Carr to avoid having to underwrite his salary for the upcoming season. The Panthers were also interested in Karr, making this a huge grab for the Saints as they kept him away from a division rival.
The Raiders have officially notified QB Derek Carr that he has been released, per the source. The team released him before his $40.4 million contract became guaranteed today.

New Orleans hasn’t had its first-round picks in the 2023 NFL Draft since being traded to the Philadelphia Eagles, so the team needed to find a quarterback elsewhere before the 2023 season.
The Saints also have James Winston on the roster, but his future with the team is so uncertain now that Carr is expected to join the team.
Last season, Carr threw for 3,522 yards and 24 touchdowns in 15 games. He also threw a career-high 14 interceptions, the second straight season in which he threw 14 picks.
If you’re ahead of Carr, now’s a good time to bet on the Saints winning the NFC South, as there’s still some value at +210. However, the odds are likely to move once the move becomes official.
