The final round of games in the World Cup groups are upon us and now it’s time to take a look at Group C: here, Argentina and Poland look primed to progress.
There was unanimity about the South American’s squad potential, as it will be Lionel Messi’s last World Cup and Argentina had gone without a loss in their last 36 games. However, that amazing streak was broken by Saudi Arabia in an upset that will last the test of time. But Argentina quickly recovered and put Mexico to the sword to keep their hopes alive in the competition.
Poland, meanwhile, were held to a draw against El Tri, after Robert Lewandowski missed a penalty kick that probably would have made the difference between the two nations, Memo Ochoa to the rescue.
After that, the FC Barcelona forward guided the Poland squad to a victory over the Green Falcons, and are now leading the group with four points, one more than Argentina, with one game to go.
“The Mexican fans go wild. Ochoa has done it again. And Lewandowski can still not score in a World Cup…what Drama! And suddenly, this has come to life.”
– What a moment in the game.

Poland vs Argentina: odds
Argentina need to win the game against Poland to avoid any possible elimination scenario that could affect them. Added to that, a victory could even see them take the top spot, depending on the result of the Mexico vs Saudi Arabia clash.
But at the same time, Poland, who will go into the match knowing that Argentina are not unbeatable, will need to get a good result to avoid any unwanted surprises.
The South American side are the big favourites in this contest at -210 to win the match, while their opponents are tipped +600 to pull off the upset; the draw is being paid at +310.
Poland vs Argentina: prediction
In a group where everything is possible and multiple combinations will no doubt give a surprising edge to the group, both Argentina and Poland have no option but to give their best to book a spot into the next round.
Poland have no doubt taken note of La Albiceleste’s mistakes in their opener and will try to expose the two-time World Cup winners. Argentina may feel the pressure in a different way as they look to finally get a convincing win on the board, something the pre-tournament group favourites are yet to do.
However, Argentina have the X factor in a certain Lionel Messi, whose goal proved decisive against Mexico. The question now is: will he appear again, or will fans see the Leo who wasn’t buzzing around the pitch versus Saudi Arabia?
In football, anything can happen, but this is a do-or-die game and Messi will likely find the necessary inspiration to lead Argentina to a very important victory that could prove to be the starting point of something huge for the Argentinian side in Qatar.
Prediction: Poland 1-2 Argentina
Lionel Messi is the only player who has never got knocked out of “any” Tournament group stage in his 17 years of career 🤯
