Could Aaron Rodgers’ Green Bay Packers teammate be part of the trade that sends him to the New York Jets? An insider thinks so.

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers met up with the Jets brass on Tuesday, as they took a private jet to California to persuade the future Hall of Famer to force a trade to New York.

Green Bay will have to play ball, which they seem more than willing to do. Rodgers’ story is a familiar one, as most All-Pro-caliber quarterbacks have this problem at the end of their careers these days. Rodgers thinks he can still play, but his contract is an albatross. If the Packers part ways with Rodgers (politely), Jordan Love is a sustainable backup plan.

Most importantly, the Packers will have plenty of room to add talent around love. But we are far from that point.

NFL rumours: Could players trade David Bakhtiari and Aaron Rodgers for the Jets?

Packers Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel wondered if David Bakhtiari might be part of the trade to New York. Bakhtiari and Rodgers are close, and there is no guarantee that the former will choose to continue his career without the latter.

Just a thought: What are the chances Rodgers might want LT David Bakhtiari to be part of the #Packers’ deal with the #Jets? It’s strange that his deal wasn’t reworked when all the others had been done for a while. If it trades before the 17th, it will cut $5 million off the GB price cap.

Green Bay could save more than $12 million by adding three more void years to Bakhtiari’s contract this offseason. Perhaps even better is to completely trade it in.

Bakhtiari won a Super Bowl with Green Bay, and is a three-time All-Pro and Pro Bowler. He had a career, but he also got injured relatively recently. He played just one game in 2021, and 11 in 2022.

With the Jets, it would be a big investment besides hitting Rodgers’ ceiling, so they’ll need to make sure the pair restructure said contracts.
