The Indianapolis Colts have plenty of quarterback options available, and one of them isn’t Matt Ryan, who they left to start free agency.
Matt Ryan will not be the Indianapolis Colts starting quarterback in the 2023-24 regular season. It’s unclear what his plans are now that Indy dumped him, but Scott Station wants to go in a different direction at the QB position.
There were a lot of free proxy options available. Lamar Jackson remains, and although the Colts may have discussed him as an inside option, they haven’t yet made a serious offer. Jackson would need significant financial means, and would limit what the Colts could do to meet serious needs in free agency. This is why crows are the only interested suitors at this point.
One solution to this would be to sign a temporary staff midfielder with connections to Steichen. Fortunately for Indianapolis, there’s one on the market at Gardner Minshew. Even if they sign Minshew, Steichen, and the Colts they’ll still have the option to draft a QB in the first round, and bring him in slowly.
Hearing the Colts are looking at free agent QB Gardner Minshew. With Shane Steichen connected—they’ve been together at Philly for the past two years, with Minshew making four starts—it makes sense.

Minshew has started 24 NFL games in his career, proving he can be counted on as a backup QB. This will be his first chance to start training camp since his time with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
