NFL rumors: Vikings may have just spelled the end of Dalvin Cook

The Minnesota Vikings’ recent move may have hinted that they are seriously considering a move from running back Dalvin Cook.
The Minnesota Vikings made some big changes to their roster, parting with the likes of wide receiver Adam Thielen, linebacker Eric Kendricks and cornerback Cameron Danzler Jr. New Orleans Saints quarterback Marcus Davenport. Change is coming at Minnesota, and the future of running back Dalvin Cook has been up in the air, as he’s calculated to be $14.1 million for the cap this season.
Could this latest move signal Cook’s imminent exit?
According to NFL Network insider Tom Bellisero, the Vikings are signing Alexander Mathison to a two-year, $7 million contract that could go as high as $8 million.

With Matteson still in Minnesota, does this mean the end of Cook’s time in Minnesota?
The Vikings re-signed Alexander Matteson, putting Dalvin Cook’s future into further doubt
As mentioned earlier, Cook is set to account for a good chunk of the cap space, and moving on from him will help them relieve some of the financial pressure. But, Cook had shoulder surgery this season, and the Vikings will be on the hook for $2 million due to the injury guarantee. As ESPN’s Kevin Seifert points out, the Vikings will owe Cook $2 million if they release him and he can’t pass the physical.
There was a report from SKOR North’s Darren Wolfson that the Vikings had received a trade offer for Cook.
Last season, Cook ran for 1,173 yards and eight touchdowns on 264 carries. His 4.4 yards per carry is his lowest average in his six years at Minnesota.
As for Matteson, he ran for 283 yards and five touchdowns on 74 carries in 17 games.
It will be interesting to see what the Vikings do with their back room. They have already committed for two years with Matteson. What will come of Cook? We should have an answer sometime before the start of the 2023 regular season.
