NFL rumors: Surprise team now favored to trade up to No. 1 with Bears

All eyes will be on who gets the #1 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft from the Chicago Bears. It now appears that there are new favorite possibilities.

Before the start of the 2023 league year, there was some news regarding the quarterbacks. Derek Carr is the new starting quarterback for the New Orleans Saints. The Seattle Seahawks and New York Giants re-signed Geno Smith and Daniel Jones, respectively. With those options off the board, and Aaron Rodgers likely to be at some point, the best way to fill the need in the quarterback is to draft one.

There are four top prospects for a quarterback, and the Houston Texans are likely to take one at second. Therefore, in order to jump them, the team would have to contact the Chicago Bears for a first pick. The Bears are said to be open for business and seem serious about trading far from the best option for more demo capital. With multiple teams in need of a quarterback, fans are wondering who will jump to the #1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL.

According to Betonline.ag’s Adam Burns, the Carolina Panthers are the favorite to get the Bears’ No. 1 overall pick.

Odds of achieving the #1 overall pick in the 2023 #NFLDraft (via BetOnlineBurns):

The Panthers bet will favor them trade the first pick in the 2023 NFL Draft with the Bears

The Panthers have been hampered by quarterback plays since 2018, from Cam Newton to Taylor Heinecke, Kyle Allen, Will Grier, Teddy Bridgewater, PJ Walker, Baker Mayfield, and Sam Darnold. The Panthers, in need of a new head coach, hired Frank Reich, known for his work with quarterbacks throughout his career. Now, he has the No. 9 overall pick at his disposal, which would give them the last of the top four available picks in Bryce Young, CJ Stroud, Anthony Richardson or Will Levis.

The quarterback move could begin shortly after last week’s NFL scouting combine. Richardson may have greatly increased his stock, as he ran a 4.43 second 40-yard dash, scored a wide jump of 10 feet 9 inches, and had a vertical jump of 40.5 inches. But it will need some time to develop. Stroud, meanwhile, made a case for being the best quarterback with an impressive throwing session at the NFL Combine.

As for what the Bears are looking for, General Manager Ryan Poles told NBC Sports’ Peter King that he knows he can get the first driver in 2024 and 2025.

Poles said, h/t NBC Sports. “I know I can get a ’24 one and a ’25. You’re telling me that in the next couple of years I’m going to get two? That’s either four really good players, or if we’re cruising, we can still trade again.”

NFL fans will be eagerly waiting to see who will be able to convince the Bears to drop their first pick. If the Panthers were to pick which young quarterback would lead their franchise for the foreseeable future.
