NFL rumors: Packers, Jets have likely agreed on Aaron Rodgers trade terms

Based on reports of Aaron Rodgers talking and the Jets, it’s likely that the framework for the fill-in Jets deal has been agreed upon.

Things are finally moving regarding Aaron Rodgers’ NFL future. On Monday night, it was reported that Rodgers and the Jets had engaged in talks with the New York Jets, a report that first came from Trey Wingo and was confirmed by other NFL rumors on Tuesday.

Rodgers — who isn’t expected to be on The Pat McAfee Show today, but you might want to tune him in right now — hasn’t made a decision yet on whether or not he’ll continue his football career. But it’s clear he’s at least open to the idea if he’s talking to the planes.

For that news to show, we now know one thing: The Packers and Jets very well could have already agreed to a deal that would send Rodgers to East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Aaron Rodgers talking to Gates means a deal is likely to be agreed

Remember when Derek Carr visited the New Orleans Saints several weeks ago, while he was still a layman? The only reason he was allowed was because the raiders had given him permission to go. The Saints had to agree to terms of trade with Vegas to secure their permission.

Same here with Rodgers and the Jets. For Rodgers to legally talk to the Jets would mean a deal could potentially be agreed.

This meant that the Jets had permission to speak with Rodgers (otherwise, it would be in vain). Routinely, permission is only granted if teams agree to a compensation swap. Stay in touch. #Airplanes https://t.co/2ym1uCpHfP

Even if a full deal hasn’t been agreed yet, it’s safe to assume that the basic structure of one could take shape.

So, what’s the catch?

Well, the Jets don’t pull the trigger until they know for sure Rodgers will be back in 2023. They don’t want to trade a quarterback to push him and retire after three days.

Once Rodgers figures out what he’s doing and reports the packets and planes, we’ll see something happen… hopefully.
