NFL rumors: Odell Beckham Jr.’s asking price is absurd

NFL rumours: Odell Beckham Jr. wants… a surprising amount of money in free agency, and he might get it — just not from a real competitor.

The market for wide receivers for this year in NFL free agency is at an all-time low, with the likes of Odell and JuJu Smith-Schuster as the most valuable commodities available.

This…isn’t ideal for teams that need a star out wide. There’s a reason the Chicago Bears traded for DJ Moore.

Two Kansas City Chiefs – Smith Schuster and Mikul Hardman – are in the mix, with both expected to command multi-year deals in excess of $10 million per season. Beckham Jr. is trying to double that mark, reportedly seeking $20 million a year after his last workout, which has left teams ticked.

Update: Free agent WR Odell Beckham is seeking a $20 million a year contract, per Mike Florio.

NFL rumours: Odell Beckham Jr.’s asking price

Beckham is seeking a $20 million contract, but that’s likely to be a high price due to incentives. The guaranteed money, due to Beckham Jr.’s injury history, would be closer to $10 million. Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio discussed this in a recent article:

“(His contract) would actually be something like a one-year, $7 million contract with the team option after one year to open up to three real years followed by a fake final year that drives the average total to $20 million per year.”

The Beckham Jr. workout was for 12 teams, and it took place last week. Just last season, he dealt with the Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, and Buffalo Bills, to name a few. Even the Kansas City Chiefs had some scouts in this exercise, as they could lose two of their best spots in free agency.

While Beckham is no longer the All-Pro-caliber wide receiver he once was, he has been explosive with the Rams and his recent workout form suggests he can get to that level of play again.
