NFL rumors: Eagles having change of heart on Darius Slay?

The Philadelphia Eagles appeared to cut cornerback Darius Slay earlier Wednesday. As it turns out, they may have had a change of heart.
The Philadelphia Eagles have had a few days in regards to their roster. While they were able to retain James Bradbury, Jason Kelsey and Fletcher Cox, they lost players like Javon Hargrave TJ Edwards and Miles Sanders. Early Wednesday morning, it looked as if the Eagles were ready to release Darius Slay, their top linebacker.
With the Eagles strapped for so much space and the fact that safety Chauncey Gardner Johnson was poised to become a coveted free agent, it appeared the team and Slay could not come to an agreement on a restructured contract. That allowed Slay to enter the open market, or so we thought.
Later on Wednesday evening, CBS Sports’ Josina Anderson tweeted that the Eagles were “having a hard time letting go” of the Slaughter and that they “still want to keep it.”
From what I hear per source, it looks like the #Eagles are having a hard time letting go of CB Darius Slay at the moment, and would still like to keep him. Let’s see if GM Howie Roseman can find another rabbit in his hat – so to speak. Whatever the case, it’s a worthwhile endeavor.

From there, the news became more and more positive for Eagles fans.
Looks like Darius Slay is staying with the Eagles after all
ESPN senior NFL insider Adam Schefter reports that the Eagles haven’t officially released Slay, and that a source told him the cornerback is expected to stay with the Eagles, noting that he wasn’t final.
But then Sly’s wife, Jennifer, tweeted, “Here we are baby,” complete with a green heart and an eagle emoji.
The Eagles didn’t officially release CB Darius Slay today, and now a source has said that Pro-Ball CB is expected to stay with the Eagles. It’s not final, but that’s the way it looks now.” A new deal could be in the works.

Then Sly screamed, seemingly confirming all the rumours.

In this way, Eagles fans have continued to offer their flowers to general manager Howie Roseman, who as of this writing appears to have retained both of his key running backs. On Tuesday, the team signed Bradberry to a three-year, $38 million contract with incentives that could bring the total to $44 million. Also, $20 million of Bradbury’s salary is guaranteed.
It will be interesting to see what Slay’s contract looks like now that he’s set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of this next season.
Last season, Slay recorded 55 combined tackles (40 solo and 15 tackle assists), 14 passes defensed, and three interceptions. In coverage, Slay allowed 46 receptions for 532 yards and five touchdowns on 79 targets, according to Pro Football Reference.
The Eagles were close to winning Super Bowl 57 this past season, and they’re doing everything they can to keep as much of the squad together as possible.
