NFL rumors: Bears asking price for Raiders trade up to No. 1 revealed

The Las Vegas Raiders reportedly explored trading with the Chicago Bears for a No. 1 pick, but the price was considered too high.
Once the 2022 NFL regular season was over, the world waited to see who would be able to make the Chicago Bears relinquish the #1 overall pick. After all, the Bears had no need in quarterback, as they had Justin Fields.
Last week, the Carolina Panthers won, as they managed to get the Bears’ No. 1 overall pick in exchange for their No. 9 and 64 pick in 2023, a first-round pick in 2024, and a second-round pick. 2025 pick, wide receiver DJ Moore.
While the Panthers won, the Las Vegas Raiders were one of the two teams to discover the move to first place.
According to Tashan Reed and Jeff Howe of The Athletic, the Raiders scouted the move from No. 7 to No. 1, and figured out the asking price, although they never made an official bid. The word about the NFL Scouting Combine was that the Bears were looking for their 2023 first- and second-round picks, and two future first-round draft picks, a price the Raiders deemed “pretty steep.”
Word was getting around the NFL group that the asking price for the No. 1 pick was this year’s first and second round picks as well as future first round picks, per Tashanreed & Jeffphowe.
This was a very heavy price for the raiders to pay. https://t.co/IpxIYfTXsZ

Raiders reportedly found Bears asking price for No. 1 pick ‘too steep’
Needing a quarterback entering the league year, the Raiders released Derek Carr from his contract. That put them in clear contention to pick one of the best prospects in this year’s NFL Draft class, and a team that could move up. But, it never paid off, as the Panthers gave the Bears multiple draft picks and No. 1 wide receiver for Fields to target in 2023 and beyond.
Las Vegas brought in a quarterback with knowledge of head coach Josh McDaniels, and it was none other than Jimmy Garoppolo. Before becoming the San Francisco 49ers starting quarterback in recent years, Tom Brady was a backup with the New England Patriots, where McDaniels was the offensive coordinator. The Raiders and Garoppolo agreed to terms of a three-year, $72.8 million contract, which became official on Friday, March 17th.
Even though the Raiders signed Garoppolo, they were still in a position to draft one of the four best quarterbacks available. Realistically, the latter would be either Alabama’s Bryce Young, Ohio State’s CJ Stroud, Kentucky’s Will Levis, and Florida’s Anthony Richardson if they remained seventh in the first round.
The Bears understandably had a high asking price for the first overall pick, and they fared well after the Panthers jumped out of the ninth.
