Aaron Rodgers’ trade to the New York Jets seems more realistic with each passing day, but an NFL insider wants to throw a surprise contender into the mix.
Aaron Rodgers heading to the New York Jets is the next domino waiting to fall this season. After the Jets spent hours flirting with Rodgers in California, the two sides came close to striking a deal with a commercial frame reportedly already in place.
As Rodgers begins his journey down the same path as Brett Favre, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler works to jam the scent away from the Jets’ path. Rather than see the Green Bay Packers quarterback join the Jets this summer, Fowler has spoken publicly about the possibility of Rodgers joining a different team: the Carolina Panthers.
It’s just an “entertaining” idea, so the NFL community shouldn’t be doing too much of it.

The Panthers have made no effort to recruit Rodgers so far in the off-season, and the only thing that has driven them to these rumors is their desperate need for a reliable quarterback.

Other than dropping the Panthers in a short interview, Fowler has nothing to support a potential Rodgers-Panthers deal. All he’s saying is that the Panthers can “take a big swing” on Rodgers but they don’t need to.
With the ninth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, there are much stronger rumors suggesting that Carolina will trade the top five spots to boost its chances of landing a coveted quarterback like Bryce Young or CJ Stroud.
Even if they stay in the ninth, the Panthers can still dominate their quarterbacks (Will Levis and Anthony Richardson pretend they are prospects who might get knocked out of the top five). As Fowler himself says, Carolina has no reason to go after the biggest whale in the mid-market that is Aaron Rodgers.
