NFL rumours: Surprise QB could blow up the NFL Draft as the #1 overall pick by John Bowler

A divorce between Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers seems inevitable at this point, and the most logical place to land the quarterback is with the New York Jets.

Rumors of ongoing meetings between the two sides surfaced late Monday evening and were corroborated this afternoon by additional reporting of Rodgers and Nahas Gates discussing what the future will look like under a new shade of green.

Obviously, Vegas, a city like New York that never sleeps, is caught off guard by this news because the Jets’ Super Bowl odds have changed hands.

At BetMGM, the Jets were +2500 to win the Super Bowl on Monday, but today they’ve moved up to +1800.

There has been rumblings about Rodgers for the Jets for the majority of the offseason. The Packers have hinted they are ready to move on and give former first-round pick Jordan Love reigns, and Rodgers has been coy about his future in Green Bay since the Packers lost to the Detroit Lions at the end of the season.

The Jets had one of the best defenses in the NFL in 2022 and several quality players in skill positions on offense as well. The only thing they didn’t have was an elite (or even serviceable) starting quarterback, which ultimately derailed them from the playoff run.

Zach Wilson, who was second overall the previous year, was left out after some terrible play and an even worse performance in a post-game interview last year. Primary backup Mike White provided a temporary spark for the Jets, but he was best suited as a backup and certainly not elite enough to compete against the likes of Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen or Joe Burrow in the AFC.

Rodgers has been giving the Jets what they need as a QB to compete against the best. Although he’s only appeared in one Super Bowl and has failed to get the Packers running back since, and while his off-the-field views and interviews have created issues, his talent is undeniable. His addition puts the Jets into the mix in the AFC which is why their prospects are moving so quickly.

Odds are updated periodically and are subject to change.
