Jets insider reveals likely Aaron Rodgers trade package

A New York Jets insider has given their prediction as to what the team will have to trade to the Green Bay Packers for quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

For those wondering what’s next for Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, there seems to be some kind of clarity. On Monday, the New York Jets were given permission by the Packers to talk to Rodgers, and the squad flew to California to meet with the quarterback. While this may sound like “Rodgers to the Jets” is about to happen, the four-time NFL MVP has yet to agree to a trade. So, Rodgers’ decision still looms large.

What would a Rodgers to the Jets trade look like?

ESPN’s Rich Cimini, who covers the Jets, offered his predictions on what the AFC East team would give up for Rodgers, if it really did happen. Cimini says he could be a second-round pick in 2023 and a conditional third-round pick in 2024.

The Jets Insider predicts what Aaron Rodgers’ trade package could look like

As Cimini states in his tweet, the compensation will be the amount of contract the aircraft contract in the trade. In addition, Semini says that the conditional third rounder will depend on the performance of Rodgers and the team.

According to Spotrac, Rodgers right now, if he were to stay with the Packers, would cost $31.6 million for the cap in 2023. Albert Brier of TheMMQB wrote that if Rodgers were traded, he would only cost $15.74 million for the cap.

For the Jets, Rodgers is the best quarterback available. Derek Carr, who they were interested in this season, signed a four-year, $150 million contract with the New Orleans Saints. Geno Smith re-signed with the Seattle Seahawks to a three-year, $105 million contract. Daniel Jones and the New York Giants agreed to terms of a four-year, $160 million deal. They can’t afford to swing by and miss Rodgers.

Even the players in the squad are publicly promoting Rodgers to join them in the AFC East on social media.

The Jets know how important it is to get a proven quarterback this season. The lack of quality options in the position this past season cost them a shot at the postseason. They are now hoping they can strike a deal to get Rodgers, the league’s multi-time MVP, to move from the Packers Green to the Jets Green for the 2023 season.
