With matchday 2 now complete in Group B we know what each team needs to qualify for the round of 16 at the Qatar World Cup. All four teams can still qualify!
Iran
After beating Wales today 2-0, things are looking far brighter for Iran after their 6-2 humbling by England.
If Iran beat the USA in their final game they go through. If they draw they’ll need to hope England draw or beat Wales.
Wales
Wales came back to nick a point against the USA, but a defeat to Iran mean they need to beat England and hope either USA and Iran draw, or they beat England by six goals or more. We’d say USA and Iran drawing is more likely.
England
Despite being underwhelming against the USA, the draw they clinched in that match means a draw or a win against Wales sends them through. If they’re beaten they should still be safe, unless the Welsh beat them by four goals, but it will mean they won’t top the group if there is a winner between Iran and the US.
USA
A win against Iran and the US fly into the second round. Lose or draw and they’re out. That simple.
