Grading Packers insider’s proposed Aaron Rodgers trade package

A Green Bay Packers insider has suggested some of the compensation suggested in any trade for Aaron Rodgers, and it actually seems quite fair.

Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio insisted Thursday morning that Packers players want a first-round selection “and more” for the future Hall of Fame quarterback, but it’s hard to see that happen.

Rodgers went on The Pat McAfee Show and said he was “90 percent retired” when he went on his dark retreat. While he intends to play for the New York Jets, the Packers are in no rush to make it happen. He gave Green Bay enough leverage to get something of value in exchange for his services.

But Rodgers is 39 years old. He’s coming off his worst season in some time. He looks old because he is. So, what should planes trade for?

Any proposed business offer to Rodgers must come with strings attached. These terms are simple – how many games does Rodgers play, can he lead the Jets to the postseason, and how effective is he on New York’s offense?

This trade show was suggested by Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, who covers the Packers. He’s well connected to the organization, so this guy knows what he’s talking about a lot more than I do when it comes to Rodgers’ terms of business.

Green Bay football fans are expected to want No. 12. It’s a franchise icon and it’s hard to part with it. The best way for this to happen is for the Packers to throw in two more players – possibly a David Bakhtiari type – to sweeten the deal and get an extra pick and/or player.

The trade as outlined above is very similar to what Green Bay acquired for Brett Favre, at least in terms of the contingent selections. Rodgers and Favre aren’t exactly alike, but at this point in his career, Rodgers can hardly be expected. It makes sense for the Jets to ask for judgments on any first-round pick they deal with Rodgers.

Overall, I would rate this proposal a B.

Can the packers get more? definitely. will they? The longer this goes on, the more difficult it will be to hold the planes hostage. Ultimately, Green Bay will have to show a hand.
