Gignac: I want Messi to win the World Cup
Argentina will play their sixth World Cup final on Sunday against France. In the run-up to the game, several players are making their predictions and expressing their wishes for one country or the other to be crowned the best in the world.
According to Tigres forward and all-time leading scorer André-Pierre Gignac, his preference is clear: he wants Argentina, led by Lionel Messi, to beat his native country and become the world champions.

After the quarter-final match between Argentina and the Netherlands, when on FOX Sports, where Gignac has participated as an analyst, he expressed his desire to see Messi become world champion. “In Argentina they want to win the World Cup because of Messi. I am French, but I would love to see Messi lift the World Cup because he deserves it, for his whole career,” he said.
The Tigres striker has represented France at international level. The first tournament he played in was the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, where he had minutes in the match that Mexico won 2-0. From there he would be called up again for Euro 2016 and even had the chance to make his country champions, as his shot in extra time would have beaten Portugal, but the ball crashed against the post. A goal from Eder won it for Portugal and gave Cristiano Ronaldo his first and only international title with his national team.
