Buccaneers’ Super Bowl, NFC South odds following Baker Mayfield signing

It probably won’t be Kyle Trask’s job at Tampa Bay after all in the 2023 season.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are reportedly finalizing a deal with former #1 overall pick, Baker Mayfield, to compete for the team’s starting quarterback position.

Moving from Tom Brady to Mayfield or Trask is a significant drop, and that’s reflected in the Bucs’ odds of winning the Super Bowl in the 2023 season. Could Mayfield, however, make them a little more competitive than originally projected?

The Pirates’ odds of winning Super Bowl 58

Right now, the Bucs are teetering on the long shot line to win the Super Bowl at +6,500 odds.

However, Mayfield showed some promise when he had a competent practice with the Los Angeles Rams late in the season. The former Cleveland Browns and Carolina Panthers quarterback struggled hard on offense with Matt Rule before being ejected.

With the Rams in the 2022 campaign, Mayfield completed 63.6 percent of his passes for 850 yards, four scores and two picks in five games (four starts). The only other time he completed more than 63.0 percent of his passes in his career was his rookie season with Cleveland.

This is a great low buy move by the Bucs, who are looking to stay competitive in the weak NFC South now that Brady is gone.

Mayfield will have plenty of guns at his disposal from Mike Evans to Chris Goodwin and a young Kid Oton. He may not be good enough to lead Tampa Bay to the Super Bowl, but the team only needed eight wins to win the division last season.

Bucs odds to win NFC South

The NFC South is still very weak, however, and the Bucs are last at +500 for division wins this season.

With Mayfield in the fold, Tampa could be worth splashing at those prospects because the other quarterbacks in the division are currently Derek Carr (New Orleans) Desmond Ridder, Taylor Hynecke (Atlanta) and whoever Carolina picks with the first pick.

Odds are updated periodically and are subject to change.
