The Cleveland Browns freed up more money with Deshaun Watson’s contract restructuring.

Of course, the Cleveland Browns had to restructure DeShawn Watson’s contract. It was a bad deal.

The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Monday morning that the Browns have saved nearly $36 million in available space by restructuring the ridiculous Watson deal. It’s as if the Browns should never have given it to him in the first place, but then again, that was the only way they could get the rug out from under the Atlanta Falcons initially to land him.

And with that newly created $36 million in space, look for the Browns to participate in free agency.

Brown traded for Watson for three reasons. It was over with Baker Mayfield, they wanted to start winning matches more frequently and they wanted to be fun. It was disgusting at first, but I understand what the franchise wanted it to do. However, there must be consequences for artificially inflating the position group market due to team incompetence.

It’s a foregone conclusion that quarterbacks who are far better than Watson won’t get that kind of guarantee in a huge contract. These teams are not desperate. Cleveland is, and that’s what it took. What’s important to understand is that Browns General Manager Andrew Perry has to work with Watson and his representation to make this thing work pretty much every season.

Watson’s agent David Mulugeta may not like this, but that’s the price to pay for Watson’s representation. Besides, he has so many blue chip clients in his diversified portfolio that he can deal with Watson contract scams from time to time. For now, that’s what it will take for the Browns to compete with the star quarterback they traded arms and a leg for last year.

Here’s to it, the Browns are the AFC’s version of the New Orleans Saints on creative accounting.
