Brazil vs Serbia live updates: score, stats and highlights| World Cup 2022

Brazil begin bid or world title No. 6

Having utterly romped through qualifying, Brazil have arrived at the World Cup as one of the favourites (when, in truth, do they not?).

Tite’s men topped South America’s qualifying group with a record 45 points – despite playing one game fewer than everyone else except Argentina.

The Brazilians are now aiming to return to Lusail for the final in just under a month’s time – but, it should be noted, they have become something of a quarter-final team in recent World Cups.

Since winning their fifth world title in 2002, Brazil have been knocked out in the last eight in three out of the last four tournaments.

And when they did make it past the quarters… well, we all know what happened, don’t we?
