The New York Giants character will be very active this season. These five free agents should be targets for GM Joe Schoen over the next few weeks.

Few expected the New York Giants to be a fit in 2022, let alone a playoffs team. Excellent coaching from Brian Daboll allowed New York to reach the divisional round despite a stripped-down slate in order to clean up Dave Gettleman’s salary cap mess, keeping the Giants ahead of schedule in their rebuilding.

While the Daniel Jones situation has consumed some key resources, the Giants have plenty of salary cap space to work on improving their roster. Let’s take a look at five free agents that GM Joe Schoen must pursue in order to improve New York’s talent base this offseason.

One of the major decisions Schoen will have to make this season is position. John Feliciano, who did well as a starter last year, is set to become a free agent this season.

While finding a way to retain Feliciano will maintain continuity, it’s not a long-term solution for the Giants. One reasonable update would be Conor McGovern, who has been a good starter for the New York Jets for the past three years and is set to hit the market.

It will give the 29-year-old McGovern the opportunity to play New York competently in the position and buy time for Schoen to draft a replacement in subsequent rounds of coaching development. Schoen saw the value of a good center in Buffalo when he handed the Bills a huge contract to Mitch Morse a few years ago, so McGovern could be the Giants’ version of stability at the center.
